Jekyll to Hugo

Starting a new blog

For no other reason than to just start new.

I had previously been using Jekyll + GitHub Pages for a while and was just ready to do something different.

Enter Hugo + Cloudflare Pages.

Setup

I created a new directory, got Hugo installed, and picked a theme (https://github.com/hanwenguo/hugo-theme-nostyleplease)

Created a new repo, modified my hugo.toml to target my intended domain name.

Purchased my new domain on Cloudflare, and was immeidately prompted to select workers or pages and authed to my github and selected my new repo!

macOS Audio Renamer

I use two Apple Studio Displays in my office. The one annoyance since day one: picking the right one for audio.

In the macOS audio dropdown they’re both just “Studio Display Speakers” and “Studio Display Microphone.” Apple doesn’t give you a way to rename them, so I’m guessing every time I dock my MacBook Pro or hop on a call.

I built a small menu bar utility that lets me rename them, save preferred input/output pairs, and test audio.

A bit about me if you’re curious. I have two young boys, a beautiful wife, and two small dogs. I enjoy F1, football, UFC, video games, writing code, reading, rock climbing, traveling, and brewing lots of espresso. Work

I’m a senior SRE/DevOps engineer. I genuinely enjoy running incidents and digging in to solve problems across the stack. I have a strong interest in AI and leveraging it to solve problems more efficiently. I’ve been in the industry for well over a decade. I hold a B.S. in Computer Science. Earlier in my career I was primarily a Sys Admin (rack and stack!) and later transitioned to full software engineering roles, DevOps, and SRE.
